Black Hearts & Red Blood Dreams: Tales of Terror and the Supernatural is a short story collection by Sara Saint John. Now, as much as I like her longer novellas, short stories is where she really shines. We live in a busy world these days and nobody has much time to do anything that interests them—let alone read a 500 page story. But here is where these short stories really stand out—there is nothing like coming home to read a story in one sitting.

This is a wonderful collection of short stories. Each one has a different feel and tone which takes you to different places and times where the spooky, creepy, and weird thrive. It is clear from the stories that Saint John is a natural writer of short dark fiction, which makes her transition to novels all the more impressive.

I'm looking forward to reading her other short dark fiction collections in the future. Some of my favorite stories in this book include: Harlequin, Sins of the Fathers, and The Testament (which I feel is one of her best short stories ever!).
