Gunfighter
By: Kevin Magnus

A great Gunfighter in his day,
But now dead on the ground he lay.
As smoke worked its way out from the bullet hole,
All knew his lifestyle had taken a toll.
Everyone thought he would be the winner of this fight,
But it was he who turned up dead by the end of the night.
As he lay there, not yet even cold, his gun was stolen away;
Someone's memento of the events which occurred that day.
His body was placed into a pine box for display,
Which allowed people to mock him in an uncivil way.
His family stood there and swallowed their pain while looking on,
The only thing that they wanted was for him to be buried by dawn.
Finally he was put to his eternal rest,
The Gunfighter who was once known as the best.
